Australia electricity bills, explained.

Start with the state, distribution area and energy fact sheet. A reference-price discount is not a complete tariff.

Know what the reference covers

The AER Default Market Offer applies to standing offers in New South Wales, South Australia and South East Queensland. It does not establish one electricity rate for all Australia. Use the appropriate official comparison service and the actual offer for your distribution area.

Reprice your own usage

A market offer can combine a daily supply charge, single or time-varying usage rates, controlled-load prices and conditional discounts. Compare the same annual or billing-period kWh. If a free-usage window is offered, assign actual or clearly assumed consumption to that window rather than discounting the whole bill.

Keep imports, exports and demand separate

Solar feed-in credits value exported electricity, not all solar production. A demand charge measured in kW cannot be entered as an energy rate in AUD/kWh. The current comparison handles energy and fixed components; complex demand, controlled-load and export formulas require additional documented calculations.

No numeric tariff presets are imported for this market yet. Start with a current bill or written supplier quote. A country guide is not a live rate feed.

Questions, answered.

Is the Default Market Offer the cheapest plan?

It is a standing-offer price reference for specified jurisdictions. Compare eligible market offers against your own usage and written terms.

Can the tool calculate a demand-based bill?

It can compare energy and fixed components, but does not reproduce a demand tariff from interval data. Keep omitted demand charges visible and do not label a subtotal a full bill.
