USD / COUNTRY BILL GUIDE

United States electricity bills, explained.

Use the utility tariff or retailer’s written price sheet. U.S. state averages help describe a market; they do not quote your household.

Your service territory comes first

A state can contain many utilities, cooperatives and municipal systems. In competitive retail areas, the seller and the company delivering electricity may be different. Check the service territory, residential class and meter configuration before comparing an advertised plan.

Test more than the headline cents per kWh

List supply, delivery, fixed customer charges, taxes and any usage-dependent credits separately. A promotional effective price at one monthly usage level can change substantially when consumption changes. Enter a second scenario at your own kWh rather than relying on a representative household.

Use averages for context

The existing regional guide includes dated EIA residential averages. Those are reported market statistics and should not be loaded as a currently available retail offer. Keep a written source for a quoted rate and check the effective date, contract duration and cancellation conditions.

No numeric tariff presets are imported for this market yet. Start with a current bill or written supplier quote. A country guide is not a live rate feed.

Questions, answered.

Can a state average predict my bill?

It describes a group of customers and may include a different mix of charges and usage. Calculate your own all-in rate from your current bill instead.

Why can the same advertised plan cost more at lower usage?

Fixed fees and usage-triggered credits change the effective cost per kWh. Model the complete written formula at several realistic usage levels.
