Mexico: understand your CFE tariff before comparing the pesos.

A CFE statement combines consumption, billing dates and a tariff classification. Read those together before comparing it with another household’s bill.

THE TAKEAWAY

Your tariff and consumption history matter more than a generic state-wide electricity price.

Find the tariff identifier

Locate the tariff shown on your statement, the meter readings, billing dates and consumption in kWh. Keep the current electricity charges separate from previous balances. Use pesos throughout your comparison; changing a calculator’s currency does not convert an old input.

Understand the DAC question

CFE describes Doméstica de Alto Consumo classification using a moving average of consumption over the previous 12 months, with limits tied to the applicable domestic tariff. A single expensive bill is not enough to reconstruct that history. Use the official tariff page and your own statements.

Normalize the billing period

If one statement covers 60 days and another 30, totals alone are misleading. For example, 900 kWh across 60 days and 450 kWh across 30 days both equal 15 kWh a day. The cost can still differ if pricing, classification or other charges change.

Build a question CFE can answer

Record the tariff, billing dates and the line item you cannot reconcile. Ask how your consumption history affects your classification and which rate table applies to your location and period. Do not substitute a tariff from another city or an undated social-media example.

Your next four steps.

  1. Copy the tariff identifier from the bill.
  2. Check the exact number of billing days.
  3. Gather the previous 12 months where possible.
  4. Confirm classification with CFE.
